SUSTAINABILITY

At Yínká, we value the environment and are committed to minimizing our environmental impact. Our pieces are designed mindfully to last longer than a season. Each has a timeless quality paired with durable fabric for optimal longevity. We have adopted a conscientious and holistic approach to making decisions in every step of our supply chain. We strongly value transparency and are continually learning to be a part of ongoing, positive change.  As we grow, we will continue to value slow fashion because we are a brand built on attention to detail and an environmental ethos.

Currently, we utilize two ethically produced fibers:  ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon derived from landfill and ocean waste and recycled polyamide made from post-industrial waste. ECONYL® recycled nylon is made out of landfill and ocean waste and is responsible for 80% less fossil fuel emissions than traditional virgin nylon, and its fabric integrity is never compromised. Recycled polyamide reduces landfill plastic waste, the demand for new petroleum-based fabrics, and greenhouse emissions involved in producing virgin polyamide.   Our fabrics are certified as STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, a governing body that accredits textiles free of harmful substances. They also meet the Global Recycled Standard, which is used to verify recycled content as well as responsible social, environmental and chemical practices product production. Please refer to our product pages for specific content info as they vary per style.

Materials

Our garments are cut and sewn from fabrics made of recycled and regenerated fibers. For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® regenerated nylon material made, 57,100 tons of carbon dioxide are spared from being emitted into the atmosphere. Additionally, 70,000 barrels of crude oil are not used in manufacturing ECONYL®. Along with our recycled fabrics, we have ensured that your order arrives in compostable packaging.

Production

Currently, Yínká is a one-woman brand, and each piece is hand-crafted by Yínká herself in Los Angeles, CA. Production is carried out on a made-to-order basis and designed to be as long-lasting as its timeless style.

To transfer artwork onto our recycled fabrics, we exclusively use digital printing. This high-quality printing process is more ethical than screen printing because it requires significantly less water than other methods and reduces water contamination risk. Digital printing uses less wash and rinse cycles, resulting in less water and ink waste.

A Note on Ethics

"Although I never liked school much, I believe that learning, in all its forms, is one of the most invaluable human experiences. I will continue to be a student of the fashion industry and all of its nuances as long as I'm making clothes. As a product of this learning, I expect Yínká to continue to grow and evolve with me. It would be a shame to start a brand today and not care about the future."
